摘要：A valve mechanism for an internal combustion engine is provided with a cam (2)that rotates in conjunction with rotation of a crankshaft, an engine valve (30) that is liftedand opened along with rotation of the cam (2), a variable lift amount mechanism (10) thatis arranged between the cam (2) and the engine valve (30) and varies the maximumamount of lift of the engine valve (30), and a lost motion mechanism (50) that is arrangedbetween the cam (2) and the engine valve (30) and absorbs the amount of lift of theengine valve (30) by contracting when drive force is received from the cam (2) to maintaina closed state of the engine valve (30). The maximum amount of contraction of the lostmotion mechanism (50) is set to such a value that the lost motion mechanism absorbs theminimum value of the maximum lift amount of the engine valve (30).
