In schools and at home, most of us have been scolded or even got punished for daydreaming. The majority of
people say that by daydreaming we waste our time and energy in something that is nothing less than unproductive
things. But many medical studies have showed something different. They’ve stressed on the fact that daydreaming
works wonders on our imagination power, creativity and situation-handling technique. In fact, many problems can
be easily solved if we daydream.
The topmost benefit of daydreaming is that your mood gets the right improvement. By separating yourself from
the world around you, you tend to enjoy the aloneness in your mind and get peace from daydreaming as you think
about something that calms your senses. When you start imagining things while daydreaming, you tend to forget all
the stress and tension. Instead, you get happiness from it and this happiness changes into a source of energy that
helps you in working in a good mood.
Many psychologists have said that people who daydream tend to have a sharper memory. It’s true that when
you’re daydreaming, you tend to get carried away to imagining various situations, either real or unreal. You tend to
act differently in different situations, trying to satisfy your mind by doing what you want in your dreams. When
your mind gets satisfied, you’re in a better position to concentrate more in your work. Since daydreaming activates
the nerves of your brain, you tend to have higher attentiveness and your ability to remember things develop.
When you daydream, you automatically imagine yourself as your heart says and therefore, you get to know
yourself better. You also start realizing the mistakes you’ve made in life and you start trying your best to avoid
repeating them. Such imagination techniques help you to connect yourself with your soul.
如:waste our time and energy; your mood gets the right improvement...
; improvement (n.) Firstly of all... What’s more...Last but not least...

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 练习 2:
Have you ever wondered why some people seem to be so successful in life? Everything flows just right for them,
the great job, great salary, perfect love, and ideal life. One reason for success is the ability to make correct choices
and decisions that lead to positive outcomes. It’s based on power of understanding things immediately, without the
need for conscious reasoning or study. This ability is intuition (直觉) and highly successful people enjoy a higher
degree of intuition than the average person. Successful people combine all they have learned together with what
they sense with their intuition.
Everybody is intuitive, but not everybody trusts their intuition when it comes to making decisions. Most people
don’t even believe they have intuition, so, it doesn’t even cross their minds to use it for problem solving. Even
today, there are those who are afraid of their clairvoyant (有透视力的) ability. They have many misconcepti ons
about it, thinking it’s taboo. Others believe they have it, have had experiences with it, but never knew it could be a
valuable tool for problem solving.
Intuition is actually a skill that can be developed and applied effectively for improving all areas of life. It is not a
“gift” that only a few have. In fact, everyone has some degree of intuition. Your intuition has probably been a guiding force for you all of your life by having provided you with information that helps you reach positive outcomes. This type of information tends to come from ideas based on intuition, inspirational thoughts, dreams, or visions. It can, coincidentally, come from others, or from your inner voice. Often, it’s a very strong feeling deep in the pit (凹处) of your stomach or your heart. No matter how the information comes to you, when applied, the outcome is usually positive.
Intuition is like reading. It’s a skill that can be developed through time. No one is born knowing how to read; yet
almost everyone has the potential of learning how to read. As time went by, the more we read the more skillful we
became at reading. With intuition, the more you understand and use your intuition, the better it develops. Some
people seem to have more intuition than others. It’s probably because they had positive experiences with it as they
were growing up, and are now more comfortable with using it.

Cyberspace(网络空间) has given rise to a new social change where people make friends from across the world, but know little about their next-door neighbors. This worries critics (批评家). Take Bob for example. He thinks his
neighbor doesn’t know anything about gardening, but his net friend GreenThum does. Besides, Thum doesn’t do that annoying sound when he talks. Those people like Bob have long been
criticized for their lack of necessary social skills. Critics think people almost forget how to naturally communicate with their neighbors, creating a social network of strangers.
However, a report entitled “The Strength of Internet Ties” provides a different opinion. It suggests that the
Internet helps develop social networks and make use of them when it matters most. Friends often move. As kids, our friends’ parents move away. As adults, we move away to college or for work.
Communicative tools have made losing touch the result of laziness, not distance. “The larger and the more diverse (多样)a person’s network, the more important e-mail is,” argues Jeffrey Boase, who co-authored the report. “You can’t make phone calls or personal visits to all your friends very often, but you can keep in touch with them
regularly with the help of the Internet. That turns out to be very important.”
In addition to expanding and strengthening the social ties, people keep in the offline world, Internet and e-mail
provide a social and informational support group that helps people make difficult decisions and face challenges. “Internet use provides online users a path to resources, such as access to people who may have the right information to help deal with family health problems or find a new job,” says John Horrigan, author of the report. “The Internet creates a new basis for community. Rather than relying on a single community for social support, people often must actively seek out a variety of appropriate people and resources for different situations,” says co-author Barry Wellman.

Throughout history, music spread among people of different cultures. In today’s technological advanced society,
however, people spread music online, sometimes without an artist’s permission. This can lead to many problems,
and music companies are now dealing with this practice. Sharing music online without permission is theft(盗窃).
Sharing music online prevents recording companies from making money from their efforts. They say that sharing
music online has led to a huge drop in profits and sales over the past 10 years. People who find music for free
online are not paying for CDs or every MP3 downloaded. To truly understand the influence of music piracy(盗
版)on creators, one must understand how many people are involved in the recording process. For the sale of each
album, profits must be shared between musicians, sound engineers, music producers, managers, advertisers, and the
company selling the product. Many people believe sharing music only affects the recording artist, but the reality is
that sharing hurts business for all companies involved.
There are many people who don’t see the harm in sharing music online and even think they have the right to do it.
One online blogger states that her originally paid for an entire CD and that he should be able to do with the material
whatever he wants. While he may have legally paid for the music, he does not have the right to provide permission,
which means people like the blogger are thieves.
Although we don’t spread today’s music the same way we did before, there’s no doubt that people around the
world love to share music. However, internet piracy would prevent musicians from continuing producing albums
for fear of theft. Therefore, if people want to continue listening to their favorite artists, they need to buy their music
so that artists will make enough profit to continue their music careers.

While many of us go to sleep before midnight, some teenagers choose to stay up much later. They are not driven by the burning desire to write a better essay or achieve a higher grade. Instead, they are busy playing online games. Known as young internet addicts, they have long been a problem in China. A report released in 2010 by the China Youth Association for Network Development showed that there were over 24 million young internet addicts among China’s young urban internet users. The report also said that over 18 million youth had a tendency to develop internet addiction.
To deal with the problem of internet addiction among teenagers, the Cyberspace
Administration of China released draft regulations in January which carried out a ban on online gaming. If the regulations are adopted, under-18s would be banned from playing online games between midnight and 8 am.
As soon as the government’s draft law surfaced, it drew great attention from the public. Some applauded the
law as a way to better protect minors(未成年人), saying that too much overnight gaming is harmful to minors’
health and believing the period between midnight and 8 am to be vital to human physical functions. However,
others wondered whether it would be practicable if it came into effect, as minors could just borrow their parents’
IDs to register accounts to play online games. The Guangming Daily suggested that parents should help their
teenagers find a balance between the cyber world and the real world.
China is by no means the only one trying to fight against teenage gaming addiction. Germany introduced a
regulation in 2002 in an attempt to stop minors from playing online games from 10 pm to 6 am. Meanwhile, the UK,
the US and Australia have forceda rating system on computer games to make sure that teenagers cannot access
“adult” content such as violence, sex or bad language.
