The size and shape of your ears show your character more than any other part of the face. Other parts of the face change shapes as we get older, but ears do not change their shapes. They only change in size。

Reading people's character from their ears is a very old science。 In the past people thought that a person’s ears with color was dangerous。 They also thought that the shape of the ears showed if a person was musical or not。 Today, too many people believe that the size and shape of the ears help you know if a person is musical。

Ears are all different, and each different thing has a meaning。 Next time you look at a person, see if his or her ears are large,medium-size,or small. Look at the lobes(耳垂).Do they stick to the face? Ears that are always red mean that a person may get angry easily. Ears that are always cold and nearly white color mean that a person has a nervous character. ( )46. When a baby is born, ________。

I never saw my father come home from work late or ill, nor did I ever see my father take a “night out with the boys”. He had no hobbies but just took care of his family。

For 22 years, since I left home for college , my father called me every Sunday at 9:00 am。 He was always interested in my life----how my family was doing。 The calls even came when he and my mother were in Australia, England or Florida。

A. B. C. D.

Nine years ago when I bought my first house, my father, 67 years old, spent eight hours a day for three days, painting my house。 He would not allow me to pay someone to have it done。 All he asked, was a glass of iced tea, and that I hold a paintbrush for him and talk to him。 But I was too busy, for I had a law practice to run, and I could not take the time to hold the paintbrush, or talk to my father.

Five years ago, my 71-year—old father spent five hours putting together a swing set(秋千) for my daughter. Again, all he asked was that I get him a glass of iced tea, and talk to him. But again, I had laundry to do, and the house to clean。

The morning on Sunday, January 16, 1996, my father telephoned me as usual, this time he had seemed to have forgotten some things we had discussed the week before. I had to get to church, and I cut the conversation short。

The call came at 4:40 am. That day my father was sent to hospital in Florida。 I got on a plane immediately, and I vowed(发誓) that when I arrived, I would make up for the lost time, and have a nice long talk with him and really get to know him.

I arrived in Florida at 1:00 am, but my father had died at 9:12 pm. This time it was he who did not have time to talk, time to wait for me.

In the years since his death I have learnt much about my father, and even more about myself。 As a father, he never asked me for anything but my time. Now he has all my attention, every single day.

Listening and speaking are very important for beginners. The children in English—speaking countries first listen to others。 Then they try to imitate and speak. We can listen to English programs on radio。 You may just understand a few words。 It doesn’t matter. Just be relaxed, try to catch every word.

Somebody may be a good listener。 But he dare not speak. He's afraid of making mistakes. You know 63 . Don't be afraid. We must be brave。 If you really want to learn English well, you must try to speak with everyone so long as he knows English。 Whether you know him or not is not important when there’s nobody to talk with, you can talk to yourself in English。 It’s interesting and also a good way to practice your spoken English。 Remember, the more you speak, the fewer mistakes you’ll make.

First we must choose the books we’re interested in. A lot of reading

will improve your language sense。 This is the most important.

Keep writing English diaries. We can also write English articles. 65 .Don’t

be afraid of failure。 Failure is the mother of success.

She had more changes than me. Jen seemed sad, so I was busy thinking of some ways to cheer her up on Thanksgiving. I told her my plan and she was excited。 First we made a huge snowball, and then a small snowball。 Then we built a wall behind the big snowball as a tail。 Jen mixed some food coloring with water, saying, “We can spray (喷) colors on the tail。” Our snow turkey had a red, blue, green, and yellow tail. We were so busy that we didn't notice our parents come outside。 Dad found a hat for the snow turkey, and Mom wrapped her scarf around its neck. “Thanks for cheering Jen up,” Mom said。 “You’re a good brother, and you always come up with great ideas.''
