A

In the United States, 30 percent of the people have a “ weight problem”. To many people the cause is obvious.they eat too much. But scientific evidence does little to support this idea. Going back to America of 1910, we find that people were thinner than today, yet they eat too more food. In those days people worked harder physically, worked more, used machines much less, and didn’t watch TV. Several modern studies, moreover, have shown that fatter people don’t eat more on average than thinner people. A 1979 study of 3, 5 London office workers showed that fat people eat less than slim( 苗条的)people.

Studies also show that slim people are more active than fat people. A study by a research group at Stanford University found the following interesting facts. The more the man ran, the greater loss of the body fat. The more they ran, the greater increase in food intake.

Thus, those who ran the most ate the most, yet lost the greatest amount of body fat. 31 Nowadays many Americans have the problem that_____ A they are too slim B they work too hard C they are too fat D they loose too much body fat

32 A According to the passage, how many people in 900 Americans have a “ weight problem” A 150 B 300 C 600 D 270

33 Is there any scientific evidence to support the idea that eating too much is the cause of a “ weight problem.”?

A Yes, there is plenty of evidence

B Of course, there is some evidence to support this

C There is hardly any scientific evidence to support this. D We are not sure.

34 The American in 1910_____

A ate more food and had more physical activities B ate less food but had more physical activities C ate less food and had less physical activities D had more problems

35. What is wrong according to the study shown by a research group at Stanford University ? A. slim people are less active than fat people. B. the man ran more, he can lose much fat . C. the man ran more, he can eat more.

D. the man who eat more can lose his fat easily.

It isn’t strictly true that one half of the world is rich and the other half is poor. It’s one-third that is very rich and two-thirds that are very poor.

People in the rich countries don’t understand the great difference between them and those in the

poorer countries. A very simple example is that a dog or a cat in North America eats better than a child in the poorer countries. A fisherman in South America may be catching fish which is processed into pet food, but his own children are being hungry for their bodies to grow properly.

Although a number of natural resources in the world, like oil , come from these poorer countries, people in the richer countries are consuming (消费) about sixty times as much of these resources as people in Asia or Africa. And it’s the richer countries who decide the prices which they are ready to pay for these resources. And the prices of the richer countries getting for their own exports are always rising. So they are becoming richer and richer and the poorer countries are getting poorer and poorer. 36.________ of the world is very rich and ______ very poor. A. One half; the other half is B. One-third; two-thirds are C. One-fourth; three-fourths are D. One-third; one-third is

A. richer countries in Africa B. poorer countries in the world C. poorer countries in South America D. countries in Asia 39.Usually it is ______ that decide the prices of the resources. A. the richer countries B. the poorer countries C.the bank of the world D. the owner of the resources 40.________ decide the prices for the exports of the richer countries. A. The poor people in richer countries B. The rich people in poorer countries C. The poor countries themselves D. The richer countries themselves

参考范文:

In the future, man’s life will be very different form that of today. First, with the development of medicine, on the average, a person will live to the age of about 120. Second, because of the discovery of new energy, the environmental pollution will be under control. Third, people’s daily life will change greatly, too. For example, robots will do all your housework for you; your chair will change its color to match what you’re wearing; you can also put your mobile phone around your wrist and can see the caller while speaking; you even can take a new elevator into space for your holidays.
